Nammásj is an artistic expedition on skis, pulling pulkas, through the Sarek in Swedish Lapland. At the end of winter 2027, polar explorer Moufid Taleb will guide four artists there: Hugo Paradis and Monsif Taleb (film and photography), Laura Lhuillier (drawing) and Juliette Saumagne (music). About nine days on their own, to the foot of a sacred mountain whose name has been lost. Its ambition: to cultivate wonder by bringing people closer to the living world through art.
The name comes from that mountain. In Sámi tradition, it was so sacred that people avoided naming it; after being left unspoken for so long, its real name disappeared. Nammásj means “nameless” (pronounced roughly “nah-mash”).
None of the four artists has ever made work from a place this wild. Each will create at their own pace, on site or back home. The expedition will then be told through talks, a documentary, photographs, drawings and music. The preparation is already being shared on social media, and during the expedition the team’s position will be visible live on nammasj.fr thanks to a satellite beacon.
The project is run by Explorateur Terrien, a French non-profit association, and funded by a crowdfunding campaign and partners.
